First, Armor Upgrades are permanent upgrades. Once they've been put in place and removed, they cannot be reverted in the event that you own a piece of equipment with the same upgrade. You should only apply the most advanced upgrades to your equipment and ensure that you have the equipment required to complete them. You can find the upgrade components you require in a variety of locations throughout Hyrule. These include merchants, shrines and even enemies. These will generally be marked with the gold circle or blue triangle, and will be available in large quantities as you move through the game. They may appear randomly however there is a chance that getting certain upgrades can trigger a quest that will reward you with more. It is also important to note that although the level of protection provided by each upgrade differs but it's the same across all upgrades and will always be superior to nothing. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need to have an upgrade component in place and the item itself. The weapon must also be at a certain level for the upgrade to take effect and most weapons only take one upgrade at a time. Weapon upgrade components can be found scattered throughout the world, from enemies or from merchants. Upgrade components are made up of components that you can put into weapons, armors trinkets, gathering tools and trinkets in order to gain an attribute bonus. The equipment must be at a certain level before it can accept the upgrade. It is able to be upgraded in the same way as other items. The upgrades themselves are a mix of Smithing Stones and Runes, and they can be used to enhance the base stats of a weapon and enhancing its scale with other stats. They can be found from enemies dropped in the open world, purchased from a few merchants or through drops during combat. There are two NPCs who can upgrade your weapons: the Blacksmith Hewg in the Roundtable Hold hub area and the Smithing Master Iji in the Road to the Manor hub area. Both of these NPCs will accept your Smithing Stones and Runes in exchange for a higher-level version of the weapon and an enhancement. It's essential to prioritize upgrading your most-used items first, then items that you won't need to replace in the near future. Upgrade your weapon first, and then upgrade your shoulders, chest feet, hands, and shoulders when you are planning to play an asymmetrical build. The same principles apply to Magic and Utility Items, with the caveat that some products may be superior to others depending on your playstyle. Armour is not any different, with some Reforges being better than others. Magic Items A character can only upgrade one magic item.
